Biograd
Biograd is a port frequented by boaters whose destination is the Kornati Archipelago. Regattas, sailing schools and other nautical activities are organized throughout the year. Biograd's marinas have 1000 berths in the sea and 200 places on the land. They are open throughout the year.
Biograd is the royal Croatian city that in the 11th century was the seat of Croatian kings and bishops, and in 1102 saw the coronation of King Koloman, king of Croatia and Hungary. The splendours of the past are also witnessed by the religious buildings - the Parish Church of St Anastasia (1761) the early-Romanesque Church of St Anthony (13th century), the Church of St Rochus (16th century), while the Basilica of St John (11th century) survived a Venetian sacking in 1125. There is a modern tennis centre and many recreational sporting facilities like the aquagun, water skiing, wind surfing, boats, diving and many ball games.
Sv. Filip i Jakov
Sv. Filip i Jakov is a place known for former summer residences and gardens of noblemen from Zadar of which the one of Borelli family is today still famous. Yet in the 1950s it started turning into an interesting destination for many tourists.
Among other things it is very appealing because of a possibility to do various sports activities both on land and in the sea. It has a special appeal due to vicinity of the islands of Kornati to which there are organized excursions, and it is especially attractive for sailing enthusiasts.
Today's old town centre developed in the 16th and for the most part in the 17th century. Upon entering the old town centre one can immediately notice a 17th century Kaštel (citadel) with engraved coat of arms of an abbot from Rogovo ifrom the 15th century. The church of Sv. Mihovil was mentioned already in the 16th century but was destroyed by Turks and thus in 1707 today's church with a beautiful bell tower was erected.
Turanj
Turanj is a tourist resort connected with the centre of Sv. Filip i Jakov via promenade "Lungo mare,” while in front of it is the island of Babac.
Turanj was named after ruins of medieval fortress. In the centre there is a church dedicated to Lady of Carmel dating back to the 15th century whose day is especially celebrated. Thus during the tourist season in addition to this festivity there is the festivity of Turanj attracting visitors with its traditional program.
Today Turanj has numerous private rooms and suites meeting high standards as well as a large number of smaller campsites for cars and good restaurant offer which will satisfy the needs even of those most hard to please.
Island of Pašman
The island of Pasman forms a part of the Zadar archipelago. The picturesque Pasman Channel, with many islands resembling scattered pearls, separates it from the mainland and the towns of Zadar and Biograd. The rapid stream that changes its course every 6 hours makes the sea a very clean part of the Croatian Adriatic, alredy known for its clearness and transparence.
Very early humans settled in the area of Pasman /60 sq km/. Single archeological finds witness to the way of life of the early stone age /Paleolitic/ cultivators who inhabited this part of the Adriatic. We should mention Illyric towns, gradine - primitive fortifications at elevated sites, Roman ruins, ville rusticae, various mosaics, a stone statue of St. Michael /12th century/ in Nevidjane and many others.
Beyond the village of Tkon, crowing the picturesque hill of Cokovac, is the benedictine monastery of Ss. Cosmas and Damien, erected in 1125. The monastery was the centre of Glagolic liturgy and literature. The curch, designed in the Gothic style and erected on the ruins of the older Romanesque one was built from 1369 till 1419. We must mention the Gothic Crucifixion, painted by a local painter from the end of the 14.th century. At Kraj, 3 kilometers to the north, is the Franciscan monastery /1390/, with the curch and graceful courtyard from the 16th century. The monastery was reconstructed in1557. We should also mention the Renaissance cloister, the dinning room, and the museum in which are kept several pictures of considerable value, and the panel representing the "Madonna with Child and St. John the Baptist".
Kraj
Kraj - located in the south-eastern part of the island of Pašman, at half a distance between Pašman and Tkon. It is a village of fruitful olive-groves and vineyards, with a beautiful sand beach. Kraj offers excellent opportunities for peaceful vacations. Kraj extends along two beautiful sandy beaches, surrounded by olive groves and vineyards. It is notable for its Gothic fourteenth-century Franciscan monastery of St. Domnius. The monastery's cloister was renovated in the 17th century in the Baroque style. It also contains a painting of the Holy Virgin with the baby Jesus from the 15th century and museum with exhibits that tell of the island's history.
